In the weeds

Listen: Do You Wanna Dance by Cosha

FYI, the artist formerly known as Bonzai is now going by Cosha, the phonetic pronunciation of her given name. And on her new album, “R.I.P Bonzai,” she says she’s baring her true self to stand by her work, rather than hiding behind a moniker. And the album is good. Start with “Do You Wanna Dance,” where she takes all the annoying tropes of electronic music (the insidious beat, those engineered flutes) and makes them not only weird but also delicately enjoyable. We’ll take it.

Plant mom = the new cat lady

Straight from Refinery29, I bring you, “Plant Ladies are the New Cat Ladies,” a statement if I ever saw one. But rather than to pick it apart (you can do that on your own), let’s take it a step further. The trope is, you get a pet as a proxy child, right? And a plant is sort of a step behind ‘animal’ on the responsibility scale. So if uniformly we are choosing the non-sentient option, that’s got to say something about our collective adulthood, right? Like, specifically that we’re pushing it further and further off. For further reading, please also see this recent article about egg freezing.

Alert: Weeds are in!

In a world where flora is in and ugly is beautiful, “unruly” plants like cloud bush and Queen Anne’s Lace are suddenly de rigeur. You call it authentic, I call it predictable. (And, truly, beautiful. Read the article for some excellent images.)

To further your habit

A cute little growhouse to give your plants light from the depths of your windowless apartment. Way less intensive than a cat.

But a cat doesn’t need a grow light.
