Wellness burnout

Listen: Aute Cuture by ROSALÍA

All hail ROSALÍA. In her video for “Aute Cuture,” she appears as sort of a villain queen, decked out in fur, wielding jeweled knives as fingernails. Flaunting those fingers at every opportunity, she pied pipers manicurists and seamstresses (or are they office workers?) and wreaks general havoc with her spunky harem of sharp-nailed dancers. In case you didn’t already know she was a badass.

Self-care burnout

Two things the Snake People* generation is famous for: 1. a deep devotion to self-care, and 2. burnout. And now, it turns out, one can fuel the other. A very earnest piece in Dazed points out that all the energy you’re spending on regimenting your baths, meditations, and sleep tracking is probably just exhausting you even more. But if extremes don’t help, what can?! (Try relaxing.)

Taking a thing off your plate, then

You know what else we do too much? Laundry, thanks to aggressive detergent brands that make us fear dirt. But overwashing is, of course, wasteful, so a whole bunch of brands are dropping fashion lines designed for much less frequent cleaning. See: Unbound Merino‘s wool travel clothes, designed to last weeks with no wash; a similar offering from Wool & Prince (plus just Wool& for women); and Pangaia‘s seaweed-fiber tees treated with wash-stalling peppermint oil. Wear; don’t rinse; repeat.

One more way to streamline $

Alex Mill’s tagline, “uniforms for individuals,” is pretty apt: their punchy basics create a foundation for easy, cohesive outfits for ladies and gents. Think: jumpsuits, linen shirts, tees, and sneaks, designed by the former J.Crew and Madewell design director in partnership with Alex Drexler, the son of the Madewell founder. These guys have the classics running through their veins, and they’re ready for you to try them on– give them a visit online or in person at their new pop-up store in Soho, open through the fall. Welcome, Alex and Co.!

Seems like a good time to plug “How to Do Nothing” by Jenny Odell. (And have a quick convo with high school you about how this no longer comes naturally.)
