Free The Bus

Listen: Someplace Else by MorMor

Back from Labor Day, are we? Well, guess what, it’s still summer. In the name of continuing to bask in the relatively generous daylight, here’s a supremely subdued bop from the Toronto singer and producer MorMor. It’s a velvety rumination about escaping demons that was penned in winter, actually, but a listen in the September sun proves that there *is* Someplace Else, and you’re living in it right now. Bottle that feeling.

Free buses in Dunkirk!

Dunkirk is not a great city, but it has done a great thing. Since this time last year, they’ve made their bus free, and already ridership is way up— double on the weekends— and people are driving their cars less. And it’s not like the city is losing money either; ridership was low before the program, so the bus system was mostly funded through subsidies and not ticket sales. Now that people are actually riding, the same municipal dollars fund a program that actually serves the community: people can take jobs wherever they want and kids can move about freely. And that’s so appealing that other cities in France are starting to run similar experiments. Will we?

A free seat at church

Speaking of underutilized assets, some churches are starting to rent out their community spaces for low-cost coworking during the day. It’s no secret that churches are struggling to stay funded (and open), and I’ll ask you to count the number of people you know who use shared workspace. It’s a win for everybody, and particularly for those hoping to pay less than WeWork’s minimum $450 a month. There may not be free coffee, but there isn’t a neon sign that says “hustle” either. #ThankGodIt’sMonday

If you are church coworking $

Forget the spiral-bound and start taking your notes in this baby. Do you feel powerful?

Bonus points for reading them over on the bus ride home. You might even make a friend or two.

Co-churching?
