Listen: Otherside by Perfume Genius

WHAT a beautiful song. Initially delicate and restrained, this hymn by Perfume Genius alternates between quiet solitude and explosions of euphoric sparkles. Listen now, of course, and then open this back up on Sunday– ‘Otherside’ is Perfume Genius’s version of church. The story is this: growing up Catholic, he internalized that he’d be on his way to hell for being gay, so church never really felt like it was for him. He says he’s done a lot of personal work to overcome that idea, and the lyrics to this song are the sayings that he’s turned to as his own version of religion. Recording ‘Otherside’, they even set the studio up like a church, with Mike at the front, and everyone else in rows facing him; every last person sang. You can sing too– but I understand if you just tear up instead.

Mike Pence’s Rabbit: Children’s Star

I bet Mike Pence’s wife’s children’s book about their pet rabbit wasn’t on your radar. Is it now? To troll Pence, John Oliver just published a parody version where the rabbit is gay, and it’s risen to #1 on Amazon outranking both the original bunny book, and the previous top-seller, James Comey’s memoir. It’s all about the bunny’s oppressive dad who won’t let him get married (presumably he overcomes his oppressor), and for extra points, it’s audiobook-voiced by STARS: Jim Parsons, John Lithgow, Ellie Kemper, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and RuPaul. Proceeds benefit The Trevor Project and AIDS United. Order for your favorite kid now.

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands

Speaking of media that’s available to today’s younguns, take a listen to the baby album from Tanlines, a v legit electro duo who both happen to be stay-at-home-dads at the moment. It’s a little bit Raffi, a little bit LCD Sound System, a lot worth playing out loud at work. Man, dads these days.

In honor of babies *and* World Water Day

(It was yesterday– you knew that, right?) I think only a few of you have small babies right now (hi Luca!), but everybody check out the baby dam:Ā it cuts your tub in half so you don’t have to waste so much water washing a tiny human. Let all your new-parent friends know.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.
