Bad things

Listen: Bad Things by Frank Leone

As a producer, Frank Leone has been growing his profile through work with big names like Hanni El Khatib and Open Mike Eagle. Now he’s dropping an album under his own name, in collaboration with the producer Teardrop Estates. SUNDROP will be with us in March, and in the meantime you can dip into its first single, which, counter to its title (“Bad Things”), is very good. It’s a gentle dive into the conscience, where the artist reviews all his twisted desires, assessing where to draw the line. Dark as that sojourn may be, it’s nice to hear that someone’s got that little voice inside. Listen here.

Just a thing don’t worry it’s not bad

Just a quick note to say that the timeshare company Wyndham Destinations is buying the travel magazine Travel & Leisure— nothing to see here, just an industry player taking control of the media on their particular business. What.

…Another bad thing

That’s not to say that buying out the press is the only option to break the PR machine in your favor. A better bet, even, is to do like the VCs do and make your own. That’s what’s going down over at Andreessen Horowitz, where they’re hiring an editorial team to publish unabashedly pro-tech opinion writing to sway us all in the right direction. It’s almost as if they hadn’t already invested in the internet’s greatest echo chamber.*

*Or maybe they’re just learning all the wrong lessons from Andreessen’s seat on the Facebook board?

A Good Thing $

Before you get too downtrodden, please meet Lorem reader and solo businesswoman Brett, who runs the most delightful postcard business. The Postcard Maven (that’s Brett) scours bookshops, museum stores, local markets, and the internet for the coolest designs, which you can buy à la carte or through a monthly subscription of three, five, or ten cards. Lest the timeliness of this proposition fly over any heads: you’re missing novelty, aren’t you, and you also miss your FRIENDS, am I wrong? Brighten everyone’s day with a sweet piece of personal mail. These postcards all ship to you for free, and subscriptions come with postage so you don’t have to go rooting around for stamps. And for every new subscriber, Brett sends a handwritten postcard to a nursing home resident, foster child, or someone else who’d enjoy a little more connection in their life. See? Postcards do wonders. Check them out here.
