Listen: Inside Friend by Leon Bridges, ft. John Mayer

“Inside Friend” is the slow jam actually written for and about this moment. John Mayer and Leon Bridges, both parodies of themselves in any scenario, team up to make one special someone their adorable at-home buddy, spinning a romantic event out of shelter-in-place domesticity. It’s all very on the nose, but we’ll take it. Listen here.

(Shitty first) date from home

Is anyone in here doing video dating?! All the apps have introduced features that let you “date from home” by moving from the in-app chat to a video call. Say what you want about dating from a distance; this a great leap forward for singlekind. People have been looking for a way to screen out shitty first dates for ages, but until now, almost no one has been willing to jump on the phone (not to mention FaceTime) to see how things vibe before meeting up in person. Presto change-o.

Post-date activities, also from home

You may have heard that New Zealand has flattened its curve spectacularly. But other Kiwi curves are thriving: Sex toy sales have tripled since New Zealand’s stay-at-home order, and folks are having a grand old time. I don’t believe I need to explain why, but we should note that solo time is emerging as an important option as a condom* shortage looms under restricted factory operations. In case you needed a new application for the Corona-time adage, “stay safe, stay sane.”

*Now that we’re on condoms, it’s also worth reading about New Zealand’s brand-new, laissez-faire abortion rules.
