Puff-puff-PASS

May 14, 2018

Listen: Pass by Skales, Yung L, Endia

New week, new drop from Skales. He’s been picking it up lately– debut album in 2015, followup in 2017, and now a hot new single. Typically, his Nigerian beats will get you right up and moving (remember ‘Shake Body‘?), and ‘Pass’ is no different; it’ll get you marching straight on through your Monday, if that’s what you need. And, for the record, that’s ‘pass’ as in ‘puff-puff-pass’; the official line is, ‘pass me di ganja.’ For context.

Hit that Juul

Man, the media sure loves vaping. Which I guess started because kids love vaping, which has felt like old news for ages, but the conversation doesn’t seem to be stopping so I guess we can talk about it too. After months of ‘vaping sweeps America,’ and ‘schools put ban on juul, but kids do it anyway!‘ we’ve learned that the Juul now occupies 54% of the vape market, and it’s mostly because of high school kids, who’ve ironically-but-actually embraced the Juul because it’s subversive (who would actively market a vape to a teenager?); it looks ridiculous (there’s some kind of perverse internet cred in smoking something that may as well be a flash drive); and it’s infinitely riffable in an artistic sense. To fully understand the phenomenon, the New Yorker says, you ought to follow @doit4juul on instagram for its infinite fan-generated memes, but it’s been taken down already because teenagers are faster than you at the internet. Actually, that’ll be a persistent problem if you’re looking to find Juul stuff on instagram; where you use your socials as a record, for younguns the internet is dynamic, and they delete stuff as they go along (much more like real life, right?); and let’s not forget the finstagram, etc. Anyway, without diving too deep into the adolescent psyche, a few rules for successful use of Juul as a cred booster: 1. it helps to be cool in the first place; 2. you’re not allowed to get addicted; 3. most importantly, don’t be old.

Breaking: NYC kids already over it

Which can only mean the worst is yet to come for the rest of the country. Oops.

For all the non-NYC kids, how to buy a Juul if you’re under 21

Or just… be an adult? (JK, we just learned that one’s a no-no.)
