Listen: Pop Song by Perfume Genius

If you didn’t know “Pop Song” was by Perfume Genius, you might think Jai Paul had something to do with it. Those dark Jai notes of percussive, slightly metallic mystery ornament the grounding bass and sweet falsetto harmonies that define Perfume Genius’s sound. That’s a recipe for success already, but did you know that this song is a part of an album-length dance piece? The Sun Still Burns here was composed to facilitate movement in a performance featuring PG himself as a dancer alongside the choreographer Kate Wallich and The YC dance company. It’s in the middle of a New York run right now, so catch it immediately or follow it to Minneapolis or Boston—or wait to see if he pulls a Rihanna and drops it on Netflix.

Since we’ve been off for a bit, some other songs you should listen to today:

Stranger than Fiction by Moses Boyd

A very smart car

There’s a new trend afoot and you’re not going to like it: People are starting to fall asleep behind the wheel of Teslas on autopilot. As you may know, Tesla sometimes calls their cars “self-driving,” capable of making it where they’re going when the driver’s doing something else. But there’s also a thing called a “false sense of security” that predates the Tesla, and in fact all of the two-faced tech that has lulled us to sleep and then allowed us to crash and burn. Which is to say, please drink some coffee.

Or just stay inside

Why pose a road risk when you could just telecommute? Apple is training to win the augmented-reality race with AR glasses and headphones that help you pretend to be in a room with people. Together, they’re supposed to mimic the experience of a meeting, so you can look around the “table” at your coworkers and hear their voices emanating from wherever they’re virtually seated in the “room.” The set isn’t supposed to launch until about 2022, though, which leaves you plenty of time to prance around google hangouts in your pajamas with both audio and video on mute.

Maybe just looking smart is enough $

Hype all you want for the AR headset, but how about some simpler innovation? You probably know about Everlane’s ReNew line made of post-consumer materials, and they’ve dropped new styles for the season. One fave is a new military parka made of recycled bottles, and they’ve designed a very handsome overcoat made of recycled Italian wool. Either will rack up the compliments—and, if you fall asleep in them, the worst that will happen is you’ll stay nice and toasty. Check ’em out here.

Genius.
