Listen: The Table by Nathan Bajar

Nathan Bajar is originally a photographer, so it’s no surprise that his music videos create a sense of visual intimacy and wonder. On his single, “The Table,” Bajar literally lets you into his home and guides you through every corner, waltzing, dreamlike, through the suburban floorplan from bedroom to basement to kitchen table for a family meal, never quite settling in a place before he moves onto the next. It eventually comes to light that his dancing is searching, and the glaze on the lens is grief; “The Table” is a requiem to his dad, who died last year. It’s also just one song on the album, Playroom, that’s full of plenty more psychedelic dreams. Tune in for a good weekend wander.

Gather ’round the lunch table

Here’s a harsh reality that some of us face: we’re highly skilled workers, but we don’t work at Google or Facebook and therefore don’t get in-house catered lunch. What are we to do? One New York company, Ripe, is disrupting that divide, crafting “farm-to-office” meals for small teams every day of the workweek. Founded by former models, the service first catered to “young creatives” (à la Soho House), but now they’re working with corporate clients who actually have money, like Oscar and Vimeo, proving that you’re never too small to outsource basic lifeskills.

When you’re here, you’re family

Meanwhile in the second city, the very fancy restaurant Saint Lou’s Assembly is dressing up as Olive Garden for Halloween. They’re promising “fake climbing ivy plants, framed photos of the Italian countryside, decorative plates hung from the walls, and of course — a Frank Sinatra-style playlist to make you feel extra saucy.” The menu is straight from the source too, featuring spaghetti and meatballs and shrimp scampi carbonara— and you bet there’s an endless supply of breadsticks. It’s not farm-to-office, but it’ll do.

And now, something free $

And wherever you live, your mailbox is now serving free steak and salmon. ButcherBox, delivery purveyor of humanely-raised meats, is ready for you to try them out, so they’re offering new members four grass-fed, grass-finished top sirloin steaks and two pounds of wild salmon free in their first box. Get it here.

What is your Halloween costume and is it better than an Olive Garden.
