Listen: I Just Wanna Be Your Prisoner by Skinny Pelembe

If you don’t know Skinny Pelembe, please enjoy being the one to introduce him to your friends. He’s on the come-up in the UK and hasn’t made much of a splash yet stateside, but he is releasing really interesting singles at an increasing clip, so now’s your time to catch on. “I Just Wanna Be Your Prisoner” is one from 2018 that presents kind of an eerie funk, ornamented by breathy vocals from Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne of the London band Hejira. Pelembe’s signature is kind of a slow burn, but the burn builds on this track, bringing it from a chilled R&B to a slamming, spacy funk. A strong candidate for playing on loop.

About face

Had enough abortion talk? Here’s some fun international news: as Spain increases its allowance for paternity leave, new fathers have gotten a real look at the work involved in raising a child and, according to nationwide surveys, they now want fewer kids. Imagine that.

So outsource it?

Back stateside, this lady Lisa Dreyer started a service that does wifely things for men after they get divorced. The Divorce Minder will make your kids’ summer plans, schedule grocery delivery, set up your new home, and make plans for holidays. Depressing? Sure. But at least now someone’s getting paid for that labor.
