Listen: Real Truth by J-E-T-S ft. Tkay Maidza

They say the genre is dead, and this track is evidence: “Real Truth” is a minimalist electro-hip-hop fusion that feels like the future. J-E-T-S, made up of producers Jimmy Edgar and Travis Stewart, are responsible for the rattling beat and playful zingy overtones, and it’s Tkay Maidza with the sweet flow. Take the red pill; listen here.

Feeling lucky

Lucky Lee’s, a new restaurant opened by a wellness blogger on the Lower East Side, promises “clean Chinese food”– the kind that won’t make you feel “bloated and icky” after you eat it. Dishes like “Hi-Lo Mein” are “gluten-free, dairy-free, wheat-free, corn-free, peanut-, cashew- and pistachio-free,” and, of course, devoid of MSG. As for the name, the owner’s husband’s name really is Lee, but in the first-name, white-person kind of way. You’d hope for this to be an SNL sketch, but it is, sadly, a thing that happens in New York City, in public, in 2019. The internet has already done its work on this place and the owner has apologized, genuinely and profusely. But can we get some municipal sensitivity readers? This seems avoidable.

*Manifesting* lucky

If you’re looking for other new businesses to patronize, there’s a fresh ~instagram experience~ in San Francisco, all about women’s financial literacy– what better way to learn your numbers than by taking a selfie, right? In the pop-up, you can kick a punching bag that symbolizes student debt; bathe in a faux-money shower; and spend money in the gift shop on a money clip that reads, “future millionaire.” The exhibit also has an installation that encourages women to get second jobs because their first ones won’t pay enough. (Lean in, ladies, amirite?) But here’s the thing: I took a photo of myself at karaoke recently and I am not, as of yet, Beyoncé. Am I doing this manifesting thing wrong, or is posting pics not the full equation?

Just date syrup

Oh, good, a company is finally making liquid sugar out of dates. Assuming anyone who takes a photo with the bottle instantly becomes a wellness blogger.

Is cleanliness next to godliness or is that just another manifest destiny thing?

Every Saturday, it features stories that I’ve usually missed over the course of the week, often about big, inspiring ideas. V much worth adding to your newsletter roster– do that here.
