Listen: Egoland by Rodrigo y Gabriela

In 2020, Mettavolution by the guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. Now, they’re teasing a new record with a single called “Egoland,” a dark, slide-guitar-heavy ranchero bop that’s pretty catchy for something without words. Vibrations are kind of the premise here — the artists call the album “a spontaneously composed unified work primed to bring about the same expansion of consciousness that inspired its creation.” Big promise, potentially coming to fruition April 21st.

At what point does a layoff become normal

Welcome, all the Meta “layers of management,” to the layoff club, where friendly faces from tech and media have been gathering for months.

  1. If any of you are among us, we support you! Please take time for yourselves before you go scrambling.
  2. Also, could you do everyone a favor and be loud about it?

According to a ZipRecruiter survey, only 11% of people have posted about their layoffs online. 8% of people have told absolutely no one.

This is concerning! How are we gonna help you out if we don’t know you’re going through something? And what do we need to help everybody internalize that it’s not personal? Go find the MANY other highly competent people whose companies made a strategic decision to maximize shareholder value yet again, and shit on the overlords for treating you like commodities and not humans. Things end. But you don’t 😘

Shouting Cup of Jo’s divorce

Since Joanna Goddard started publishing Cup of Jo in 2007, millions of people have gobbled up her every move (and product recommendation) through marriage, kids, travels, cooking disasters, you name it. This month, she announced a new life update: a divorce. And the announcement reads like it comes from an era long past.

“While we were going through stuff, I worried about what ending our marriage might look like to the outside world,” she told The Cut. “It felt terrifying. And shameful. There’s still so much stigma — just the word divorce, I can still barely say it.”

Wait, but say it, though! Sure, an ending feels like failure. But specifically for Goddard, this is an opportunity for success. Married or not, her life is going to be aspirational because that’s what she does. Only now, she also gets to be a role model to the scores of people whose lives have changed in ways they didn’t expect. Welcome to the future, Jo. We’re ready for you.
