Listen: Good2CU by Shelf Nunny

Ooh ooh ooh, listen to this delicate little song. Bubbly bells and strings underneath light lady vocals make for the easiest listening from Seattle rapper-turned-ambient-producer Shelf Nunny. If this gets you in the zone today, feel free to continue with the rest of his EP, which incorporates field recordings and electronic sparkles into more downtempo beats. Good2CU 2, Nunny.

Welcome IGTV

Just two brushstrokes away from HGTV and one Carson Daly away from an M, instagram has debuted IGTV, a feature that allows for instagram videos up to an hour long. It’s making a big news splash for something that is just vertical YouTube– look out for channels and also eventual ads, whose revenue will be split between platforms and creators. What I want to know is how the production value will be, and who is actually going to watch an hour-long video on their phone. (Oh, right–kids.)

Not-kids tho

Meanwhile everyone is loving this piece on ‘The Glamorous Grandmas of Instagram‘, which really means the aged-60-plus fashion influencers. Ladies like @iconaccidental@jennykeeoz, and @seniorstylebible are racking up the followers in designer threads, “subverting… notions of what “old” looks and feels like.” Which is wonderful, especially since many of their followers are younger and might therefore come out of this with a healthy attitude toward maturation. But if the women profiled in this piece are what aging looks like, then aging looks pretty white. Don’t stop here.

Back on regular old instagram $

How bout that cabin shot! Getaway is a newish company that’s set up tiny cabins in the woods outside Boston, New York, and DC, closeby and designed for a quick recharge. Starting at $100 a night, the minimalist cabins have the basics, like a queen bed, a stove, a fridge/cooler, sink, toilet, shower, pour-over coffee, and heat. And while they do make for excellent instagramming, do your best to go no-internet out there; it’s nature, after all, and the cabins have lock boxes for your phone. Use the code LOREMIPSUM35 for $35 off any booking, and make sure tell me all about it when you do. This is what summer is for.

Smile,

Margot
